Loyalty points that quietly bring clients back

A points program does not need punch cards or a separate app. Turn on loyalty, set what a visit and a dollar are worth, and let regulars earn their way to a credit they will come back to spend.

Mel kept a box of stamped cards behind the till for two years. Ten stamps, one free blow-dry. The trouble was that the cards lived in handbags and glove boxes, half of them got lost, and the client who deserved the reward most was usually the one who forgot the card. The program cost her money and nobody felt rewarded.

Points that track themselves

With loyalty turned on, the earning happens on its own. A new client picks up a welcome bonus when they join. Every completed visit adds points. Spending adds points too, so the client who books the long colour appointment earns more than the quick fringe trim, which feels fair because it is.

You choose the numbers in your settings, and you can keep them simple. The defaults are 50 points for signing up, 20 points per visit, and 1 point for every dollar spent, with 200 points converting into a 20 dollar credit. If that feels too generous or too stingy for your prices, change any of the numbers and the program follows.

The credit is the comeback

A discount you hand to everyone trains people to wait for discounts. A credit someone has earned works differently. It belongs to them, it has a number on it, and leaving it unspent feels like a waste. When a regular sees they are 40 points away from a credit, the next booking stops being a question of if and becomes a question of when.

  • Reward the behaviour you want. Points per visit favours frequency; points per dollar favours bigger services. Use both and you favour good clients, full stop.
  • Keep the redeem level reachable. A reward a client can touch within a few visits changes behaviour. One that takes a year does not.
  • Let the welcome bonus do its job. A new client with 50 points already has a reason to make it to visit two, which is where regulars are made.
  • Talk about it once. A line on your booking page and a mention at the till is enough. The balance does the reminding after that.

The best loyalty program is the one nobody has to remember, including you.

Turn it on and forget it

Loyalty lives in your settings with plain-language controls: the signup bonus, points per visit, points per dollar, and what a redemption is worth. Set it once and it runs in the background while you work. Mel threw out the card box months ago. Her regulars did not lose anything this time, because there was nothing left to lose.
