Promo codes that fill a quiet week and tell you what worked

A code that expires tonight can fill this afternoon's chairs. Give it a channel and every booking it brings is counted, so next month you are not guessing whether the post worked. You read it in a table, in dollars.

Priya runs a small nail salon. Saturday looks after itself. Tuesday does not. For a long time her plan for a slow Tuesday was to post something on Instagram and hope. Sometimes the day filled up a little, sometimes it did not, and she could never say whether the post had anything to do with it. Bookings do not arrive wearing a badge that says where they came from. So she stopped posting, because work she could not measure felt like work wasted.

A code that only lives for a day

On Monday night she opens Promo codes in her admin and creates one. The code is TUESDAY10. The type is percent off and the value is 10. She sets the expiry to Tuesday's date, which means the code works through the end of Tuesday and refuses everyone after that. She caps it at eight uses, because a discount is a cost, and eight bookings would fill her gaps without touching the weekend. Last, she sets the lead channel to Instagram. The whole form fits in one small card. It takes about a minute.

The cap matters more than it looks. When the eighth booking uses the code, it flags as used up and stops being accepted. Priya does not have to watch a feed or switch anything off at the right moment. The limit she set on Monday night does the policing for her.

The discount does its own maths

Tuesday morning she posts a story. Today only, code TUESDAY10 when you book. A client taps through to her booking page, picks a manicure, types the code, and the price drops on the spot, before any card comes out. If someone tries the code on Wednesday it is politely refused, because it expired overnight. The urgency in her post was real, not theatre.

One rule is worth knowing. A booking gets at most one discount, the best one on the table. If you also run a standing senior discount, a client who qualifies for both gets the better of the two, never both stacked. You cannot double-discount by accident, and the client always sees the fairer number.

Who actually sent the booking

Here is the part that changes behaviour. Because Priya set the code's channel to Instagram, every booking that used TUESDAY10 lands under Instagram in a table on the same page called Where bookings come from. It lists each channel with its bookings and their booked value over the last 90 days. Not likes. Not reach. Bookings, in dollars.

The page pairs that with tracked share links. She copies the link made for Instagram, puts it in her bio, and the page counts the clicks it gets. Clicks tell her what people opened. The bookings table tells her what paid. Even without a code, she can add a label to any booking link she shares, something like ?via=newsletter, and those bookings are counted under that channel too.

A discount with no name on it is a gift. A code with a channel is a test.

Four ways to point a code at a quiet week

  • The one-day filler. Set the expiry to today, post it in the morning, and let it die at the end of the day. Some clients will use it to book later in the week, and that is still a booking you did not have on Monday.
  • A code per person. SARAH10 with the channel set to Sarah tells you whose word of mouth actually converts, which is worth knowing before you spend a dollar on ads.
  • The flyer test. Put a code with a strict cap on a cheap print run. If that channel is still empty after a month, you have your answer and it cost you very little.
  • The launch offer. A new treatment gets a code that expires in two weeks, so the first bookings and the first reviews arrive while the service is still new.

End it without cleaning anything up

Codes are easy to stop. Every code can be paused mid-offer and resumed later, and you can delete it when it is done. Expired and used-up codes mark themselves and stop working on their own. There is no batch of prices to put back, because the code never changed your prices. It only discounted the bookings that carried it.

A month of Tuesdays later, Priya's promos page reads like a short report. What Instagram sent, and what it was worth. What the counter card with its own code sent, which in her case was nothing, so the counter card went in the bin. The next offer is not a hope posted into the void. It is a decision, made from a table that filled itself in while she worked.
