Track website bookings in Google Analytics and Meta

Track bookings in Google Analytics, Tag Manager or the Meta pixel, with each booking's price, from your website widget. Client details are never sent.

BTThe Bookatu team

To track bookings in Google Analytics, use the events the Bookatu website widget sends to the page it sits on. Your tags can then count each booking as a conversion, with its value.

What the widget tells your website

Each step is an event: ready, service_selected, staff_selected, time_selected, booked, request_sent, handoff, error and closed. A request_sent is a booking request, when you approve bookings first. A handoff means the visitor went on in a new tab, for example to pay a deposit.

A booking also carries the service, start time and time zone, its value and currency, and a reference made for your analytics. The value is the service's price before any promo code or surcharge. The reference is not the booking's id, and it opens nothing.

Count each booking once, with its value

A booking fires once, even if the confirmation or the whole page reloads in the same tab. With Google tag ticked, it arrives in Google Analytics as bookatu_booked, with its value, currency and the reference as the transaction id. With Meta pixel ticked, it counts as Schedule.

How to switch it on

  1. 01
    Open the builder

Go to Grow, then Website widget, and choose Pop-up, Inline menu or Floating. The plain Button opens your booking page in a new tab instead.

  2. 02
    Tick your tags

Under Also tell your own analytics tags, tick Google tag, Meta pixel or both.

  3. 03
    Paste the new snippet

Press Copy and paste it on your site in place of the old one.

  4. 04
    Test it

Publish the page and make a test booking. Site builders often block scripts in preview mode.

The widget only calls tags your site already loads, so your cookie banner stays in charge.

Using Tag Manager

Tag Manager needs nothing ticked. Each event arrives on the dataLayer as bookatu_ plus its name, with the details under bookatu. So a trigger on the custom event bookatu_booked counts bookings. The older names bookatu:booked and bookatu_booking_complete still fire.

In the builder, Opens on a day and Promo code go into the snippet, in every mode. A code only counts while it is live. An expired or used-up one is left off, and the booking still goes through. Your booking page reads ?date= and ?promo= too. Our post Promo codes that fill a quiet week and tell you what worked helps you choose one.

See which campaign sent the booking

When the page with your widget was reached from a link with utm_source, utm_medium or utm_campaign, the booking shows it under Came via. An ad click from Google or Meta is marked, but its click id is never stored, so Bookatu doesn't upload offline conversions to your ad account.

Questions owners ask

Does the widget send my clients' names or emails to Google or Meta?

No. No event carries a name, email, phone or note.

Will a booking be counted twice if the client refreshes the page?

No. Each booking fires once, even when the whole page reloads in the same tab.

Where to start

Open Grow, then Website widget, tick your tag and make a test booking. Our help article Add booking to your own website shows where to paste the snippet, and our post Add a Book Now button to your website or Instagram bio covers the button.
