Get found by new local clients: how Bookatu's Discover hubs work
When someone searches for a service in your town, you want to be on the short list they find. Discover hubs are free pages that group real, bookable businesses by city and by service.
Picture someone new to the area who needs a haircut this week. They open their phone and search for a haircut in their town. In that moment they are not looking for your business by name, because they do not know it yet. They are looking for any good business nearby that they can book. The whole game is being on the short list that comes up.
Most owners think the only way onto that list is to pay for an ad or rank first on Google. There is another route that costs nothing. Bookatu runs Discover hubs, shared public pages that gather real, bookable businesses by city and by service, so people searching locally can find you even when they have never heard your name.
What the Discover hubs are
A Discover hub is a public page on Bookatu that lists local businesses. There are two kinds. A city hub lives at a clean address like /discover/your-town and lists every Bookatu business in that town. A service hub goes one level deeper, at /discover/your-town/haircuts for example, and lists the businesses in that town that offer that particular service.
Every business on a hub links straight to its own Bookatu booking page, where the client can see real availability and book in seconds. The hub is the introduction. Your booking page does the rest. Nobody on these pages is a rival you are bidding against, because there is no paid placement to bid for.
Why we built them
The hubs exist to help your storefront get found by people who do not know you yet. That is the hardest kind of client to reach, and it is exactly the kind a marketplace charges a new-client fee for. Bookatu does it differently. Being listed on a hub is free, there is no commission on the booking, and there is no paid slot that pushes you above or below anyone else.
This sits alongside the work your own booking page already does to get found. We covered that in Getting found online: the local SEO and reviews flywheel, which is about reviews and the structured data on your own page. The Discover hubs are a different layer. They are the shared local pages that group everyone together, so a single search for a service in a town can surface a real, bookable business.
How you get listed
Getting on the right hub comes down to one thing: telling Bookatu where you are. You do that under Settings, Region & currency.
- Set your City or town accurately. This is the field that groups you into the right city hub, so type the town clients would actually search for.
- Set your Region if it helps, which is your wider area or state, like Auckland or Canterbury.
- Complete your services, since that is what places you on the matching service hubs.
- Keep your profile and reviews current, so you stand out once a searcher is looking at the list.
That is the whole setup. Once your City is filled in and your services are listed, your storefront is grouped with the right local results automatically. There is nothing to apply for and no extra fee.
An honest word on how the pages work
We are deliberate about not creating thin or fake pages. A hub only appears when at least one real business is listed for that city or service. There are no empty doorway pages built to chase a search term, because that helps nobody and search engines see through it anyway. Every hub you land on is a page of genuine, bookable businesses.
It is also worth being clear about what a listing is not. Being on a Discover hub means you are listed on Bookatu's own discovery network. It is not a paid advertisement, and it is not the same as connecting your own domain. It is also not a promise of a top spot on Google. It is one more free way for nearby clients to find a real business to book.
How this fits the bigger picture
The hubs work best as part of a complete approach to being found. A full, accurate profile and a steady stream of recent reviews help you stand out on the hub and on your own page alike. The same habits that win you new local clients also feed the wider find-a-business network where people search across towns and services.
If you want the detail, the Local discovery hubs help article walks through the City and Region fields step by step, the Getting found online help article covers the structured data on your own page, and The Discovery network help article explains how the shared find-a-business network sends clients straight to you with no commission.
A short checklist to get found
- Set your City or town and Region under Settings, Region & currency.
- List all your services so you appear on the right service hubs.
- Complete your profile with real photos and accurate hours.
- Collect reviews steadily after every visit.
- Share your booking link everywhere, so direct and discovered clients both land in the right place.
None of this is a one-off task, and none of it costs you a booking fee. Fill in where you are, keep your profile fresh, and let the hubs introduce you to the people in your town who are searching right now. You can start free and have your booking page and your listing live the same day.
