Sell and check out at the point of sale
Ring up products and check bookings out on Bookatu's own point of sale, print or email the receipt, and see which devices you can use with it.
What it is
Bookatu's point of sale is the Point of sale page in your dashboard. It rings up products at the counter, and it checks bookings out: the service, its extras and who did them are already in the sale, and you add any products on top. It records money you have already taken, in cash, on your own card machine or another way. Bookatu does not charge the client's card at the point of sale.
Why it helps
One sale does it all. Stock drops the moment you record it, a booking is marked done, the right person is credited for what they sold, and the receipt is ready when the client asks for it. It runs in the browser on the computer, tablet or phone at your counter, and works with a receipt printer, a cash drawer, a barcode scanner, a customer display and a label printer.
How to use it
- 1Open the Point of sale page: tap Sell on Products, or Point of sale on your Dashboard. Tap a product to add it to the sale, or search or scan for it. The point of sale sells the products you have added under Products. A service is paid for by checking its booking out.
- 2Give a discount if you like, as a percentage or an amount, choose who it was Sold by, and tap 'Attach client (for a receipt by email)' to put the sale on a client's profile. Pick how the client paid, Cash, Card or Other, and tap Record sale. Card means a card taken on your own card machine, and Other is any other way. Bookatu only records how you were paid. It charges nobody, and there is no refund at the point of sale, so give money back the way you took it.
- 3To check a booking out, tap Check out on it, in the Calendar or on the booking's own page. The Point of sale page opens with the booking's service, its extras and the person who did them in the sale, and anything already paid towards it comes off. Add any products they are buying, pick how they paid and tap Complete checkout. The booking is marked done. Checking out needs the 'Edit the calendar' permission.
- 4To offer a tip when you check a booking out, turn on 'Accept tips at checkout' in the Tips card on the Point of sale page. Set up to 4 suggestions, as percentages of the booking's price, choose 'How a tip is split' between your team and tap 'Save tip settings'. The tip goes on top of what is left to pay and shows on the receipt. These settings need 'Manage the business'.
- 5After a sale, tap Print receipt or Email receipt. To email it, the sale needs a client with an email address, and you can attach one right then. Recent sales, further down the page, lists your last 10 sales, so you can open a receipt again to reprint or email it. It shows takings, so only people with 'See analytics & earnings' see it.
- 6Receipt printer and cash drawer: receipts print through your browser's print dialog, so any receipt printer this computer can print to works. Make it the default printer and pick its 80 mm roll paper once in the dialog. The receipt is 72 mm wide, the printable width of an 80 mm roll. Turn on 'Print a receipt when a sale is recorded' in the 'Receipt printer and cash drawer' card and the dialog opens with every sale. That card shows only to people with 'Manage the business'. A web page cannot open a cash drawer itself, but a drawer plugged into the receipt printer opens as each receipt prints, once the printer's driver is set to open it.
- 7Barcode scanners: a USB or Bluetooth scanner that types like a keyboard rings a product straight into the sale, with no button to press, when it ends each scan with Enter or Tab, the usual settings. Put each product's code in its Barcode box under Products first. On a phone, a tablet or a computer with a webcam, tap Scan to use the camera instead, and allow camera access when the browser asks. No barcode? Hold the product's label in the frame and tap Identify.
- 8Customer display, label printers and card machines: tap Customer display beside Scan to show the client their sale as you ring it up, in a second window on this computer (Open on this computer) or on a tablet facing them (Pair a tablet, then scan the QR code with the tablet or type the code on it). The tablet needs no sign-in and stays paired for 30 days. Print labels, in a product's menu under Products, prints a barcode, the name and the price on a Dymo, Brother or Zebra label printer or an A4 sheet of 21 labels. If a product has no barcode, someone with 'Manage the business' can tap Make a barcode to give it one the point of sale scans. Card machines are not connected to Bookatu: take the card on your own machine, then pick Card so the sale records how it was paid. If another point of sale system takes payment for your bookings, it can check them out through Bookatu's API, as Check out bookings from another point of sale explains. Weighing scales are not supported.
