Sign people out automatically after inactivity

Sign your team out of your business when they have done nothing for a while, so a screen left open does not stay open.

What it is

Auto sign-out is a setting on the Security page. When it is on, anyone on your team who has done nothing in your business for the time you choose (15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours) is signed out. It is off by default, and owners and admins can switch it on.

Why it helps

A front desk computer or a tablet left signed in can show your clients and your takings to anyone who walks past. Auto sign-out closes that gap without anyone having to remember. A minute before, the person gets a warning and can stay signed in with one tap.

How to use it

  1. 1Open Settings, then Security, and find Auto sign-out after inactivity. The badge shows Off, or On with the time you chose.
  2. 2Under Sign people out after, pick 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or 2 hours without activity, then tap Save. Turning it on signs nobody out straight away: everyone's clock starts from that moment. The change is recorded in the Audit log.
  3. 3A minute before the time runs out, the person sees Still there? with a countdown. Stay signed in keeps them in. Sign out now signs them out straight away. If they do neither, they are taken to the sign-in page with a note that they were signed out after a period of inactivity.
  4. 4Only real activity in the browser counts: a click, a key press, a tap, scrolling or moving the mouse. A page refreshing itself in the background does not. With several tabs open in the same browser, activity in any of them keeps the person signed in.
  5. 5It applies to your business only, on the web. Someone who also works at another business stays signed in there, the phone app stays signed in as it does today, and Bookatu support is not affected.
  6. 6To switch it off, choose Off (stay signed in) and tap Save.
