Surcharges for public holidays and busy times

Charge more on public holidays or at busy times, shown to clients before they book.

What it is

A surcharge adds a percent or a fixed amount to bookings that start on the dates or at the weekly times you choose, such as 15% on public holidays or $10 on Saturday evenings. You set them in Settings, under Surcharges. A business has none until you add one, so until then prices are the same on every day and at every time.

Why it helps

Opening on a public holiday costs you more, and a surcharge lets the price say so without changing your service menu. Clients who book online see the extra amount before they book, so nobody is surprised at the counter, and an online booking is never charged more than the client was shown.

How to use it

  1. 1Open Settings, then Surcharges (under Essentials), and tap Add a surcharge. Changing surcharges needs Manage the business, which owners and admins have by default.
  2. 2Type the Name clients see, such as Public holiday surcharge. Choose Percent of the price (a whole number from 1 to 100) or Fixed amount. Then pick dates on the calendar, add a weekly time under Every week, or both. A booking that starts at the end time of a weekly time is not surcharged.
  3. 3To cover public holidays without picking them one by one, tick Use public holidays and choose New Zealand or Australia. It uses the national list for 2026 to 2028, with the Mondayised and observed days. Regional anniversary days and state holidays are not on it, so pick those on the calendar. Clients are told which holiday it is, such as Public holiday surcharge (Christmas Day).
  4. 4Leave Every service ticked, or untick it and choose the services. With more than one branch, Where keeps it to one. Check the preview, then tap Add surcharge. To stop one, tap Switch off. Bookings already made keep the price they were made with.
  5. 5What clients see: on your booking page and website widget, the times a surcharge covers are marked, such as +15%, with a line naming it. The review before they book shows the total with it included, and their confirmation and receipt show it on a line of its own. A percent deposit is worked out on that total. If the price of a time goes up while they are booking, they are asked to check the time again instead of being charged more.
  6. 6When two surcharges cover the same time they are not added up: only the one that comes to more money applies. A percent is worked out on the price before any promo code, and the code never comes off the surcharge. A fixed amount is added once per booking, whatever the group size. A free booking is never surcharged.
  7. 7When your team books a time with a surcharge in New booking, it shows before you save. Tick Waive the surcharge to leave it off. Waiving needs Refund orders, which owners and admins have by default, and it is recorded in the Audit log with your name.
  8. 8Moving a booking, by your team or by the client, prices it again at the new time and keeps the smaller of the two surcharges. Moving it off a holiday drops the surcharge, and moving it onto one adds nothing.
