# Set tiered commission and goal bonuses

Pay a higher rate once someone sells more in a pay period, and a fixed bonus when they reach a sales target.

## What it is

A tiered rule is a commission percentage that steps up with what a person sells in a pay period, like tax brackets. With 30% up to $5,000.00, then 40%, they earn 30% on their first $5,000.00 of sales in the period and 40% on the rest. A goal bonus is a fixed amount a person earns when their sales in a pay period reach a target you set.

## Why it helps

Your busiest people are rewarded without a spreadsheet at the end of each pay period. Every change applies from today and every earlier day keeps the rule it had, so a period you have already paid never changes.

## How to use it

1. Open Money → Commission rules. To change rules you need 'Manage the business' and 'See analytics & earnings', which owners and admins have by default.
2. Under 'Set a tiered rule', pick Who (everyone, or one person) and For (every service, services in one category, every product, or products in one category). Enter the 'First rate (%)', then the amount under 'Then, on sales above' and its 'Rate (%)'. Add up to two more steps if you need them, then tap 'Save tiered rule'.
3. Under 'Goal bonuses', pick Who, choose what it Counts (services sold, products sold, or both), enter the target in 'When a pay period reaches' and the Bonus, then tap 'Save goal'. A goal set today counts for the pay period you are in.
4. Sales are counted after discounts and before tax, less refunds. A person's own rule or goal beats the one for everyone. Booth renters earn no commission or bonus.
5. Tiers and goals count per pay period. Until you set your pay periods on Payroll, they are calendar months.
6. See the results on Payroll (the Payroll button at the top of the page): commission with its tiers, and a Goal bonus column showing each person's sales against the target. Staff earnings shows commission line by line.
