# Deposits

Take a small upfront payment to protect against no-shows.

## What it is

A deposit is a small amount (a flat figure like $20, or a percentage) charged when a client books online. It comes off their final bill.

## Why it helps

Clients who pay something upfront almost always turn up. It is the single best way to cut no-shows.

## How to use it

1. Connect Stripe first (see Connecting Stripe). Without it, deposits cannot charge.
2. Open Settings and tap Deposits and turn 'require deposit' on.
3. Choose a flat amount or a percentage.
4. To only charge risky clients, turn on the No-show shield instead of charging everyone.
